Three Signs That It’s Time to Replace Your Metal Fence

Metal fencing is a great way to protect your home and property. Steel, aluminum, and iron are durable, sturdy choices for fencing materials due to their long-lasting properties. However, even the strongest fences eventually wear out and require replacement. This is why it’s so important to periodically check the condition of your fence and decide whether it’s in need of repairs. If you notice the following issues with your fence, it may be time for a new one:

Rusting and/or Rotting

Most modern metal fences are typically coated with specific rust-resistant materials- however this doesn’t mean that rust spots are completely prevented. It is vital to identify and repair these problem areas immediately to prohibit the rust from spreading and eventually causing your fence to crumble apart. Also, if the joints appear rusty and corroded, this can weaken your fence and become incredibly problematic- leading to extensive rusting and rotting throughout your whole fence.

Compromised and Weathered Fasteners

Looking at the screws or nails that are holding your fence together is also an important part of your fence inspection. If your fasteners have developed rust, have begun to stick out from your fence, become worn, or are no longer securing sections of your fence together your fence is at a high risk of falling apart and it is time to replace it.

Metal Is Broken, Twisted, Misshapen, Crooked, or Leaning

Twisted areas means your metal fence has sustained serious damage. You may attempt to fix it by bending the areas back into place, but that added movement will further misshapen and destroy the metal. As it continues to lean over time, it will also begin to pull down attached fencing materials and surrounding construction.
